Lady Knights reach NCISAA semis for 1st time

CLAYTON — A quick turnaround following Thursday’s victory and a trip to Southside Christian did not keep the Greenfield School varsity volleyball team from making school history Friday.
The No. 5-seeded Lady Knights outlasted the No. 4 Warriors in five sets — 20-25, 25-12, 23-25, 25-20, 15-10 — to advance to the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A semifinals for the first time in program annals. Greenfield (12-4) will face top-seeded Pungo Christian in the semifinals Tuesday in Belhaven.
“It was an exciting game overall, but during the last two sets, the girls played as a team like never before,” said Greenfield head coach Jadelyn Castillo. “They communicated, listened to each other and executed the right plays. They were able to keep themselves centered and focused. They stood their ground and did not give up even when we were feeling Southside’s offensive pressure. The girls on the court and and out of the court worked in unison supporting one another to make Greenfield volleyball history. I’m so proud of all of my babies!”
Senior Gabrielle Vester led Greenfield at the net with 14 kills while junior setter Ysabella Saldi posted a double-double of 31 assists and 20 digs. Junior Jeallen Holland came up with 16 digs, eight kills and five service aces while Darcy Dean contributed 12 digs and eight kills. Libero Mackenzie Landers came up wit 39 digs to go with five kills and seven service points.
