Walkoff playoff win for Christ School baseball
Christ School junior Ryan Zwier owns the second-highest batting average in Western North Carolina baseball (.540).
On Saturday, the Greenies just needed one single off of Zwier's bat to advance in the NCISAA 3-A playoffs.
Zwier's walkoff followed eighth-inning singles by Will Fleming and Anthony Vaglica in a 4-3 quarterfinal win over visiting Charlotte Providence Day.
Zwier was 2-for-3 with a triple for fourth-seeded Christ School (19-2) which will play either No. 9 Rabun Gap (Ga.) or No. 1 Wesleyan Christian in Tuesday's semifinal round.
McKinley Bell was 1-2 with a double and two RBIs on Saturday, while Vaglica went 2-4 and Joe Keeler was 1-3 with a double and an RBI.
Vaglica, who is primarily the team's catcher, was recently named the Carolinas Athletic Association Player of the Year.
Fleming was one of three pitchers to take the mound Saturday for Christ School and got the win. He allowed one run (none earned), three hits and no walks
