GIRLS' BASKETBALL: WCDS clinches CPIC regular-season title, NCISAA berth
For the first time in five years, Wayne Country Day claimed its Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference regular-season championship after a 60-36 drubbing of Community Christian on Tuesday evening.
Jala Holloman paced the Chargers with 26 points -- all in the first half. Lillian Freeman and Lexi Jeffreys each had 14 points.
"The girls played terrifice on the defensive end and looked sharp throughout the game," WCDS head coach David Flowers said.
The Chargers (15-7 overall, 7-0 CPIC) clinched the No. 1 seed for the season-ending CPIC tournament, and earned the league's automatic bid to the N.C. Indepedent Schools Athletic Association playoffs.
WCDS concludes regular-season play Friday at Greenfield.
