NEUSE CHRISTIAN 81, KERR_VANCE 39
The Lady Spartans (11-9) ran into an absolute buzzsaw when they traveled to face unbeaten Neuse Christian Academy (16-0) in Raleigh Thursday evening.
Kerr-Vance battled one of the most talented private school rosters in the state, with both television cameras and recruiters in the gym to watch the Lady Lions play.
Neuse jumped all over the Spartans early on and built a 20-4 lead after the first eight minutes of action. The Lions continued to pour it on in the second quarter, heading into the locker room with a comfortable 46-17 lead at the half.
The Spartans converted more shots after the break, but were never able to close the gap. Kerr-Vance trailed 67-30 after three quarters, but defi nitely showed more fight in the second half. Kennedy Adcock scored a career-high 26 points in the loss, while Kaylee Stevenson and Lorena Negron each added four points of their own. The Lions held Spartans’ leading scorer Bonnie Evans to just two points on the night, as she faced foul trouble throughout the majority of the contest.
Senior Maria Albiero (5 reb, 4 ast, 7 stl) paced the Lions’ attack with 20 points Thursday, while sophomore Izabel DeAngelo (16 pts, 14 reb, 2 ast, 3 blk), junior Izabela Leite (14 pts, 11 reb, 5 ast, 3 stl) and junior Mack Wilder (12 pts, 5 reb, 6 stl) also scored double figures for Neuse.
The Spartans (11-9) will return to action when they travel to face Henderson Collegiate in a nonconference matchup at the Aycock Recreation Center Tuesday evening.
