GRACE CHRISTIAN 48 VICTORY CHRISTIAN 47
#1 Lady Crusaders grow in a nail biting win vs. #2 VCC //
The young Lady Crusaders who start all freshmen and sophomores less one lone senior, looked their age for most of tonight’s game as a turnover plagued performance against a veteran and talented Victory Christian team had their #1 state ranking in doubt.
After a back and forth start, Grace went out to an 11 point lead and looked as if they were on the verge of extending the lead until the pressure defense by Victory caused turnovers and the young Lady Crusaders struggled to get into their offense.
Victory converted those turnovers into baskets and closed the first half on a 13-3 run to trail by one.
The third period was back and forth with mini runs by both teams. Victory continued to turnover the Crusaders. The missteps were forced twice in the final 30 seconds and VCC finished the third period up 38-34.
After trading buckets in the final stanza, Victory led 47-40 when the Lady Crusaders got their bearings and were determined. This young team seemed to be maturing before our very eyes. Down the stretch, the Lady Crusaders looked like the veteran team; running off 8 straight to claim the win and the right to remain #1 in NC by a final of 48-47.
The home crowd was raucous from the outset and all the pink in the stands signaled strong support for the Lady Crusaders. Thank you CRUSADER FANS for your support!
