WCA handles Wake Christian to move to 5-0

GARNER — The Wilson Christian Academy softball team encountered its first stern test of the 2016 season and survived it with a 11-8 triumph against Wake Christian of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association 3-A ranks.

The Lady Chargers, now 5-0, jumped out to a 5-0 lead after scoring thrice in the top of the third. After the Lady Bulldogs closed the deficit to 6-3, Wilson Christian, a 2-A member of the North Carolina Christian School Association, added four runs in the top of the fifth.

Winning pitcher Haley Bunting limited Wake to six hits and a walk while striking out five in pitching the distance.

Casey Bunting powered the offense with a home run, double and three runs batted in. Presley Bissett doubled and drove in two runs. McKenna Griffin and Haley Bunting each doubled and Christy Jones collected two RBI. The Lady Chargers rapped 16 hits.
