Jaylen Hoard scored 31 points and earned tournament MVP as Wesleyan Christian rolled past Southwest Guilford 84-71 on Thursday in the Sheetz Holiday Christmas Classic at Southwest Guilford.

Aaron Wiggins added 15 points for the Trojans (15-1), who scored the first eight points of the game and never trailed. Khyrie Thompson and Ian Steele added 13 points apiece, while Steere had five blocks. Keyshaun Langley scored 27 points to lead the Cowboys (10-2), whose only losses have come against private-school powers Greensboro Day and Wesleyan. Kam Langley followed with 11 points, while Kobe Langley had 10 points.




Wesleyan scored the first eight points to jump ahead, but Southwest whittled it to two twice in the first quarter and then to three in the second before the Trojans went on a 17-6 run to lead 34-20 with 3:09 left in the half.




Wesleyan, which led 38-30 at halftime, pushed its lead to as large as 16 in the third. The Cowboys got within seven points with 4:42 left in the game, but the Trojans answered with a 3 and led by double digits much of the rest of the game.
