Maurice “Mo” Blakeney was named the baseball coach at Wesleyan Christian, the High Point school announced last month.
He replaces Scott Davis, who won five state championships in 17 seasons.
Blakeney is a former college quarterback and outfielder for Elon. He’s a member of the school’s Sports Hall of Fame.
Blakeney has been Wesleyan Christian’s junior varsity baseball coach since 2016. Before that, he was an assistant baseball coach at Westchester Country Day.
After Elon, Blakeney played parts of four professional baseball seasons in the Montreal Expos farm system. When he was done playing, he was a minor-league coach in the Expos organization.
