HIGH POINT — Wesleyan Christian Academy will have a changing of the guard with the top leadership of its athletic program, but the new face is familiar to students, parents and educators at the private school.

Athletic Director Glen Foster will leave his post to take a new job in Tennessee. The school has promoted Elijah Denton, who has served as assistant athletic director.

Foster will take over as director of marketing and athletics at Tri-Cities Christian Academy in Blountville, Tennessee. Foster has served as athletic director for the past eight years, during which time Wesleyan Christian Academy teams have both won state championships and competed deep into playoff rounds for state titles.

Denton has served as assistant athletic director for the past four years. Denton, 44, has worked at Wesleyan Christian Academy for the past 5 1/2 years.

He came to the Piedmont Triad originally to earn a degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Before joining Wesleyan Christian Academy, Denton was the women’s soccer coach at Pfeiffer University.

Denton, who grew up in Durham, said the athletics director post is a professional and personal opportunity.

“It’s a great school with competitive programs across the board,” he told The High Point Enterprise. “I want to continue the successes under Glen’s leadership — he has been a mentor to me. We want to grow and be even better.”

High School Principal Tim Rickman said Denton has become an integral part of the Wesleyan Christian Academy leadership.

“He has now seen our school in a teaching capacity, then as a vital team member of our athletics department, and now as athletic director, where he will be a vital player in moving our program forward now and in the coming years,” Rickman said.
