Giles averages double-double for world champion U.S. team

HERAKLION, Greece – Harry Giles, a rising senior at Wesleyan Christian Academy in High Point, scored 13 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as the United States became the first country since 1983 to successfully defend its title, fighting off Croatia for a 79-71 victory in overtime Sunday to win the FIBA U19 World Championship trophy at Heraklion, Greece.

The Americans captured their sixth U19 Worlds crown as four players scored in double figures paced by MVP Jalen Brunson’s 14 points.

Giles, one of the top recruits in the high school class of 2016, averaged 14 points and 10.6 rebounds during the seven-game event and made the all-tournament team. Jalen Brunson, of Lincolnshire, Ill., earned MVP after averaging 14.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and team-highs of 5.6 assists and 2.1 steals.

Giles, at his account @TheReal_HG3, tweeted after the game: "WORLD CHAMPS‼️ Despite all the adversity we faces individually we came together as one .. I will NEVER QUIT ON MY BOYS! WE ALL IN #TeamUSA"
