Lee Christian Takes Boys, Girls X Country Titles

Lee Christian sweeps 1A cross country titles; Anthony, Hudomint take individual

CHARLOTTE, N.C.
— Lee Christian won both the boys and girls team titles at the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1A cross country state championships at McAlpine Creek Park on Thursday.

On the girls' side, the Falcons placed three runners in the top eight. Freshman Grace Walters was the top finisher for Lee Christian with a time of 23:04.9, which put her in third place overall and second place in the scoring order. Sophomore Abby McNeill placed sixth overall and fourth in the scoring order with a time of 24:08.8, and Jessica Stevens, a senior, placed eighth overall and fifth in the scoring order with a time of 24:26.7.

The three Lee Christian runners combined for a team score of 11, well ahead of second place Christ Covenant, which finished with a team score of 36. Grace Christian of Sanford was third with a team score of 41.

In the boys' race, Lee Christian's team win was much closer. The Falcons placed runners in the fifth, sixth, and seventh spots to claim a score of 18, edging second place Christ Covenant's score of 21. Greenfield School was third with a score of 24.

Colby Johnson, a junior, was the top runner for the Lee Christian boys. Johnson finished fifth with a time of 19:49.8, and he was followed by his teammates, sophomore Gavin Jonas (19:56.2) and junior Gavin Lenz (19:58.8), in sixth and seventh places respectively.

Morgan Hudomint, a junior at Halifax Academy, won the girls' individual state championship in convincing fashion. She finished the course in a time of 22:09.6, well ahead of second-place Camille Saverino of Oakwood School. Saverino, a freshman, finished with a time of 23:00.7.

Christ Covenant's Taylor Anthony won the boys' individual title. The junior out ran the rest of the field, finishing in 18 minutes flat. Greenfield senior Will Powell was second, but he was more than a full minute behind Anthony with a time of 19:08.3. Woodlawn School's Jackosn McGeough finished third with a time of 19:20.4.
