Chargers get first victory at GCA

GREENVILLE — An early tipoff proved to be the elixir that granted the Wilson Christian varsity boys basketball team its first victory of 2020-21 Monday with a rousing 63-18 whipping of 1-A Greenville Christian.

Wilson Christian of the North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A ranks won for the first time in six games as 11 of 12 players scored. Senior Will Barefoot led the balanced effort with 12 points as classmate Seth Thompson added nine.

The clock ran continuously in the fourth quarter after the Chargers assumed a 53-13 lead after three periods.

“Team effort defense and ball movement finally gave us the win we needed,” WCA head coach Kevin Zander said. “We have been building to this moment and look forward to stringing some wins together with tough defense and patient offense.”

Greenville Christian dropped to 3-8 in all games.

WCA returns home to face former NCCSA nemesis Raleigh Friendship Christian on Tuesday.
