Crossroads shuts out Lee Christian on senior night

HENDERSON — Senior night could not have gone any better for Crossroads Christian men’s soccer head coach Holden Coghill.
His players put together one of their best games of the 2021 season by relentlessly attacking Lee Christian’s defense and getting multiple stops of their own to claim a 6-0 victory on Thursday evening.
For Coghill, the win was another chapter in a stellar season for Crossroads, which he knows would not have been possible without the leadership of seniors Ryan Adcock, Gage Edwards, Nicholas Shah and Zach Williamson.
“This has been a record-setting year,” Coghill said. “No soccer team at Crossroads, boy or girl, has ever won 13 games. It’s awesome to see everything culminate today on Senior Night with contributions from all of our seniors. Winning the way that we did was the metaphorical cherry on top.”

Thursday also proved to be another strong outing for Adcock in a year that has seen him tally 25 goals and 37 assists.
Adcock carved his way through Lee Christian’s defense to score two goals, all while setting up scoring opportunities for his teammates that enabled them to put away Thursday’s game at the end of the first half.
While Adcock led Crossroads’ offensive assault, Edwards remained stalwart in the net. Although the Crossroads defense kept Lee Christian away for most of the day, he managed to stop every single shot that came his way to record his fifth shutout in the 2021 season.
Coghill considers himself fortunate to have versatile players like Adcock and Edwards on Crossroads roster, but said that Shah’s contributions on defense help complement the program’s explosive offense.

“Gage and Ryan steal some of the headlines, but Nick marked [Lee Christian’s] best player [Colby Johnson] all day,” Coghill said. “He did that for 80 minutes. We haven’t been able to shut this team out because of how good Johnson is, so it was really cool to see what Nick did today.”
Coghill added that Williamson rounded out a great showing from the senior class with his ability to shift and move the ball down the field.
Although Shah and Williamson only have two goals between them, Coghill said that they have both accepted and embraced their roles on the team, which has helped their teammates flourish against tough competition all year long.
Losing Adcock, Edwards, Shah and Williamson at the end of the year will be a tough loss for Coghill, but he said Crossroads will still be in a position to excel in 2022 with sophomore Will Alston and freshman Thomas Shah expected to return.
Alston registered his fourth hat trick of the season against Lee Christian on Thursday, while Thomas Shah scored a goal of his own to extend his total to 39, which leads the team.
With Alston and Thomas Shah remaining with Crossroads for the next few years, Coghill said the possibilities are endless for the men’s soccer team.

“The future is bright and the foundation is laid,” Coghill said. “I’m just looking forward to how these guys can continue to build on the momentum from this year and good things we’ve done in the past when we didn’t have 13 wins. We’re starting to see the fruits of our labor and there’s no reason to think why this can’t continue for years.”
