Greenfield routed by Village Christian 82-60

The duo of Coby White and Elijah McCadden combined for 41 points, but lackluster showings at the free-throw line and from beyond the 3-point line doomed the Greenfield School varsity boys basketball team to a 82-60 loss at the hands of Fayetteville Village Christian.

In dropping a home game to the defending North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association 2-A champion, Greenfield of the 1-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference dipped to 3-4.

“It was disappointing,” Greenfield head coach Rob Salter said. “I thought we had a great week of practice. The effort was there, we just have to play with some desire. We have to make the big plays when we play the big teams.”

The Knights were hit on multiple fronts, going just 15 of 26 from the foul line. Behind the 3-point arc, Greenfield was just 3 for 17 while missing a multitude of easy looks inside.

“I can’t get mad with the effort,” Salter said. “We have to execute and finish when we put ourselves in position to succeed.”

Jordan Ratliffe, bound for Virginia Military Institute, led Village Christian with 24 points.

White had 21 points, six points and six assists for Greenfield. McCadden added 20 points.

Greenfield remains home Tuesday, facing Faith Assembly for an 8 p.m. tipoff.
