EAGLES WIN THIRD STRAIGHT OVER FAYETTEVILLE ACADEMY

MARCH 10TH, 2017

The Northwood Eagles won their third straight game over Fayetteville Academy in a slugfest 30-14. Freshman Lefthander Eddie Wood got the start for the Eagles in his debut at pitching in his high school career. Wood held his own in the first striking out the first batter he faced leadoff hitter Jake Herrman. Then Fayetteville scored 3 times on 3 hits and the 3rd hit being a 3run double by Josh Quin. Wood then settled down striking out the next two batters. In the second inning Wood began to tire giving up a walk, two basehits and a inside the park 3 run homer to starting pitcher Max Richter. Wood on the day at the plate was 1 for 1 with a double and a RBI.

Northwood scored first with 3 runs in the top half of the first. Noah Wingate (WP 1-0) being hit by the pitch, then Tevon Canady being hit, And Chance Chavis having a RBI single. In the second the Eagles went up 9-3 that was started by Eddie woods hitting a double that scored Durante Cutts. Then SS Jay Hickman gets an infield hit which scored Woods and Wingate. Canady gets Hit for the second time in as many innings. Pass balls on Fayetteville’s part played havoc scoring 3 times from third. With Chance Chavis and Canady holding second and third, 3rd baseman Alex Evans beat a infield hit up the middle which scored them both for 2 RBI’s.

Now with the score 9-3 Fayetteville cameback to tie the game 9-9. Some costly errors on the Eagles gave Eddie Wood a no decision in the contest. Northwood was not done scoring. Scored 3 more times in the third, scoring on pass balls and a RBI single by Chance Chavis. Chavis on the day was 4 for 5 with 4 RBI’s.

Fayetteville came storming back scoring 5 more runs in the bottom half of the 3rd with back to back walks given up by Noah Wingate, then a base hit by Drew Smith, a double by Richter, and a 2 run triple by Josh Quinn.

With Fayetteville up by the score of 14-12, “IN THE BIG INNING” has arrived for Northwood. The Eagles sent 24 batters to the plate scoring 18 times. It was led by Tevon Canady’ 3 run triple off the right center fence with the bases loaded. Chance Chavis beat out a throw from 3rd for a infield hit which scored Canady. Northwood drew 10 walks in the inning with Fayetteville pitching struggling on the mound. Canady came to the plate for the second time with the bases loaded hit a ball to right field for a base hit and an error on the right fielder for another 3RBI’s. Chance Chavis got his second hit of the inning and a RBI scoring Canady.

Between the 2 teams they combined for 44 runs, 22 hits, in an offensive showdown for the fans. Northwood is now 3-0 on the season, 1-0 in conference play and play next Tuesday at home vs Scotland Christian at 4:30 pm.
