NORTHWOOD BASEBALL WINS OPENING DAY
It is a new Era in Northwood Temple Baseball. With only 4 returning players from last years team, one would be wondering how this team would live up to expectations for the ’23 season.
This team led by Senior Dakota Inman, got the Rock for the start on the mound. Dakota has had a brilliant Career for Northwood and is now putting his mark in his final season. Lee Christian started the day with scoring two runs in the first. Lead off walk by catcher Bailey Burd, base hit by 1st baseman Jacob Laney, which scored Burd. Northwood’s defense had a few mental errors but things settled down.
Dakota Inman on the mound had 11k’s , 1 walk, spreading 5 hits on 3 earned runs.
The Eagles answered back in the first with two runs to tie the game. Dakota Inman base hit with 2 stolen bases, and Tanner Shoe’s RBI single got things started for the Eagles. Then “In The Big Inning” came…with a combination of hits, walk, errors, the 3 things needed for the BIG INNING, happened.
Back to back Hit batters by Lincoln Brown and Bryaden Robinson, then Brown scored scored on Chris Furne’s single to right. Now back to the top of the order with Kaden Burns hit a run double to center. Dakota Inman and Colin Bowers followed with back to back hits which produced 2 more runs. In this inning Northwood sent 9 batters to the plate scoring 7 times with 4 hits.
Then the “BIG INNING came again in the bottom of the 4th, with Taeveon Whitted leading off with a single, followed by Antonio Banks and Lincoln Brown hits which produced 3 runs. Then the bases are loaded for Taeveon who has already batted in the inning, connecting with a bases clearing 3 run double which ended the scoring on the day for the Eagles with a total of 18 runs.
All three phases of the game was completed for a huge win and confidence builder for a young team. Next game is at home when the Eagles host Cape Fear Christian at 3:30 pm on Thursday, March 9th.
