NORTHWOOD WINS OPENING DAY IN BASEBALL

Northwood Temples Varsity Baseball team opened their season with a win vs. Fayetteville Academy 13-1. Chance Chavis led the way on the mound pitching 4 innings with 9k’s,1 walk, while allowing only 1 hit facing 15 batters. Fayetteville Academy only run came in the first on two throwing errors that scored Max Richter. The only hit obtained was in the third when starting pitcher Drew Smith hit an opposite field hit to right and he was left standing on first to end the inning.
Northwood in the bottom of the first came out swinging scoring four runs led by Tevon Canady’s double. Short stop Jay Hickman who walked earlier was on third and scored on a pass ball. Walks by Chance Chavis and Zack Williams loaded the bases for Alex Evans who got his first hit of his career scoring Canady and Chavis. Williams later scored on another pass ball at the plate.
The top five batters in Northwood’s lineup scored eleven times. Noah Wingate, Jay Hickman, and Tevon Canady all scoring three times a piece. Northwood’s bottom half of the lineup was led by Alex Evans and Chase Newsome getting their first hits of the season. Newsome and Grayson Dworkin both scoring runs for Northwood.
Northwood’s next game is Monday March 6th vs Cape Fear Christian at home for the first game of the Carolina Christian Conference as the Eagles are hunting for their first Championship in school history in baseball
