WCA’s sizzling start sinks Rocky Mount
A balanced offense carried the Wilson Christian Academy varsity boys basketball team to a 58-43 season-opening victory against visiting Rocky Mount Academy of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association 2-A ranks Tuesday night.
Junior returnee Jimmy Forte led the Chargers of the North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A division with 16 points. Sophomore Harrison Parks tossed in 12 points while senior Jay Grissom just missed a double-double with 10 rebounds and nine points. Senior Joel Attoe grabbed seven rebounds.
Davd Peele and Christian McFarland added eight points each as Wilson Christian forged a 19-14 cushion after one quarter and maintained a working margin throughout.
“It wasn’t amazing but well enough,” second-year head coach Andy Coffman assessed Wilson Christian’s debut. “We’ve still got a lot of work to do.”
Top Rocky Mount Academy scorers were Collin Leguj with 15 points and Bailey Beddingfield with 13.
The Chargers travel to Raleigh on Friday to oppose New Life Storm.
