Wilson Christian delivers Strother’s first win
First-year head coach Jordan Strother notched his first win leading the girls soccer team at his alma mater, Wilson Christian, with a 5-1 conquest of visiting Southside Christian on Monday afternoon.
Sophomore Bri Little scored three goals and freshman Melanie Raper dropped in the other two for WCA, coming off a 3-2 loss to Greenfield in its season opener Friday. Little and Raper each connected for a first-half goal to give the Lady Chargers a 2-0 halftime lead but the Warriors cut that in half about 17 minutes into the second half.
Wilson Christian then scored the last three goals. Senior Kate Hoskins delivered a pair of assists while Lily Hoskins added one helper. The Lady Chargers posted 11 shots to nine by the Warriors while WCA goalkeeper Skylar Davis registered eight saves.
“It feels good to get that first win underneath my belt,” Strother said. “The girls played really well, they connected the ball really well. The through ball worked really well for them tonight and they were able to beat the defense with the through ball.
“There’s only 14 girls on the team so I can’t work with much but they hustled the whole game.”
The Lady Chargers will visit Beddingfield on Tuesday.
