DAVIDSON – Davidson Day School has hired Paul Busa, former associate scout for the Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros, to lead the Patriots’ baseball program and coach the middle school baseball team this spring.
“I am extremely excited to be joining the Patriots,” Busa said in a press release from the school. “Starting and leading a baseball program is every coach’s dream, and to be able to do it here, at Davidson Day, with its strong academic and athletic reputation, is incredible.”
Busa, who lives in Cornelius, grew up in Newton, Mass., and served in the U.S. Air Force.
After his service, he joined the Newton Fire Department. Busa later coached college baseball, and joined the staff of the Red Sox and Astros.
Busa will continue his work with the Carolina Copperheads youth organization while developing the baseball program at the school.
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Busa to Davidson Day,” Athletic Director Ron Johnson said in a statement. “His background, experience and expertise in developing the character and athletic abilities of young people through the sport of baseball will benefit our community greatly.
