Forte’s triple-double sends CCS by Epiphany
The Community Christian School varsity boys basketball team moved within a game of capturing the outright 1-A/2-A Coastal Independents Conference championship with a runaway 76-48 victory over Epiphany on Tuesday night at Williamson Gym on the campus of Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf.
With the Cyclones (14-9, 8-1 CIC) observing Senior Night for Noah Moran and Tyrik Fate, junior Jimmy Forte tallied a triple-double of 28 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Moran, in a career-high showing, had 15 points, five rebounds and two assists. Eli Eger, a freshman, bucketed 15 points and had five blocks.
Fate pulled down 12 rebounds as CCS held Epiphany (14-5, 6-4 CIC) to a single field goal in the opening quarter. The Cyclones expanded to leads of 27-13 at halftime and 52-33 entering the fourth quarter.
“We started out slow,” CCS head coach Kenneth Atkinson said. “We missed a few shots, but got back on track.”
CCS will visit Kerr-Vance Academy, also with one conference loss, on Thursday with the outright CIC title at stake.
