Lady Cyclones net first Coastal win
NEW BERN — A 9-4 advantage in the opening quarter boosted the visiting Community Christian school varsity girls basketball team to its first 1-A/2-A Coastal Independents Conference victory of the season by a 28-22 margin against Epiphany on Friday night.
The Lady Cyclones of head coach Kenneth Atkinson improved to 1-4 in the conference and to 3-8 in all games.
Junior Olivia Walker sparked the CCS offense with a game-high 14 points. Senior MiChaeyla Lee grabbed 11 rebounds and come up with five steals. Alexis Langley, a 6-foot-2 junior, claimed nine rebounds and 6-1 seventh-grader Lilly Lyndon added eight rebounds.
Atkinson said strong rebounding helped the Lady Cyclones survive a 4-for-18 performance at the foul line.
CCS continues conference play at Rocky Mount Academy on Monday.
