A staff report

A pair of Trinity Christian School products have earned Rookie of the Week honors from their respective conferences.

Dennis Smith Jr. won the Atlantic Coast Conference award as Freshman of the Week for the second time. The N.C. State point guard recorded the league’s first triple-double by a freshman against a conference opponent when he notched 27 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds in a 104-78 victory over Virginia Tech. It was only the second triple-double in the history of the Wolfpack program. He added five steals in the win.

He had a quieter outing Sunday, getting hit with early foul trouble and managing just 11 points, five rebounds five assists and three steals in a blowout loss at North Carolina.

Smith is fifth in the ACC in scoring (19.1 points per game), first in assists (6.4 per game) and tied for first in steals (2.13 per game).

Cameron Campbell was selected as the CIAA’s men’s basketball Rookie of the Week.

A 6-foot-3 freshman guard, Campbell scored 15 points Thursday as Lincoln upended Fayetteville State 75-72 in overtime.

The Trinity Christian graduate scored seven of his points in the extra period as he missed matching his career high by one point.
