Cycs wilt under Faith pressure

ROCKY MOUNT — After a 22-point first quarter, the Community Christian varsity boys basketball team suddenly fell victim to host Faith Christian’s pressing defense.

The Cyclones, who led 22-15 after the first quarter, scored just six points in the second on their way to a 70-55 loss, their second in nine outings this season.

“They pressed us and from the second quarter on, we just fell into the pressure,” said a bewildered CCS head coach Micah Baines. “I don’t know what happened. We just transformed into zombies! We just started literally giving them the ball. ... It was a mess.”

Dominique Evans had 12 points and Avery Winstead scored 11 for the Cyclones while Chase Hearn’s 23 points paced the Eagles.

Monday was Community Christian’s last game before the Christmas break. The Cyclones are scheduled to play in the Statesville Christian Showcase on Dec. 29-30.
