Skidding Cyclones lose to Northeast

The host Community Christian football team managed only a couple of touchdowns on passing plays in dropping a 54-14 Coastal Conference eight-player decision to Northeast Academy on Friday night.

The Cyclones suffered their fourth consecutive loss after a season-opening win.

Landon Beamon and Gavin Wiley each tossed a TD pass for CCS. Beamon’s only attempt went for 48 yards and the TD to Wiley. Wiley hooked up with Dylan Manning on a 26-yard TD throw and ran for the two-point conversion.

Wiley was the leading Cyclones rusher with 85 yards on 26 carries.

Leading Northeast were J.T. Simmons with 142 yards on 15 rushes and Josh Simmons with 86 yards on just four carries. Each Simmons rushed for a TD as did Alex Hanff. Justin Jones pulled in a pair of TD passes.

Northeast forged a 16-6 lead after one quarter, expanded the margin to 32-14 at halftime and outscored the Cycloners 22-0 in the second half. The closest the Cyclones came was 8-6 in the opening quarter.
