Cyclones rally for 3rd straight victory
LASKER — A fourth-quarter touchdown rallied the visiting Community Christian School eight-player football team to a 20-14 Colonial Conference victory against Northeast Academy on Friday evening.
The Cyclones of head coach Andy Jackson evened their conference record at 1-1 and overall worksheet at 3-3 with their third straight victory. However, Community Christian again thrived away from home, building its road record to 3-0.
Community Christian trailed 8-0 at the end of the first quarter, 14-6 at halftime and 14-12 going into the final quarter. The Cyclones seized the lead with the TD and added a two-point conversion from senior quarterback Grant Webb.
Scoring rushing touchdowns were Dominique Evans and Emmanuel Lassiter. Chandler Conway caught a 30-yard TD pass, and Webb accounted for a pair of two-point conversions.
Junior Avery Winstead, the Cyclones’ rushing leader, wound up with 93 yards on 21 carries, while Lassiter amassed 60 yards on just six rushes.
Webb completed 5 of 8 passes for 199 yards and only Austin Conway had two receptions.
Tackles leaders for the Cyclones were Evans with 12, Jordan Allen with nine and Bryson Scott with eight. Winstead had a fumble recovery.
