ROANOKE RAPIDS — Halifax Academy’s Eli Harris returned the opening kickoff 61 yards for a touchdown and the rest of Friday’s North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association eight-player football game didn’t get much better for visiting Community Christian.

The Vikings rolled up 404 yards of offense on the way to a 62-6 win, which was the fifth straight loss for the Cyclones after a season-opening victory. Halifax, which was celebrating its homecoming, improved to 5-0.

Harrison Hardee rambled 53 yards for another Halifax TD before Cody Wood recovered a Cyclones fumble at their 4-yard line and ran it into the end zone. The two-point run by Harris gave the Vikings a 22-0 lead midway the first quarter.

Hardee, who ran for 162 yards and three TDs, added scoring runs of 32 and 29 yards in the second quarter, both followed by conversion runs from Harris, who finished with 104 rushing yards.

Community Christian’s only points came on quarterback Reece Bartlett’s 54-yard TD pass to Landon Beamon in the fourth quarter. Bartlett completed 6-of-15 passes for 135 yards and also rushed 13 times for 59 yards. Gavin Wiley led CCS with 63 yards on 26 carries. Tyrik Fate caught two passes for 73 yards.

The Cyclones will host Bethel Christian of Kinston on Friday
