COURTLAND, Va. — The Community Christian School eight-player football team could not build upon a strong opening quarter Friday night, getting outscored 38-0 in the second and third quarters en route to a 52-22 loss at Southampton (Virginia) Academy.
CCS, a 1-A member of the 1-A/2-A Colonial Carolina Conference, dropped its third straight game without a win.
The Cyclones led 16-14 after one quarter, using a 40-yard scamper by Chandler Conway and a 76-yard burst by Cameron Williams. Quarterback Jordan Allen added the two-point conversion on Chandler Conway’s run, while Austin Conway pulled in the two-point grab from Allen on the Williams scamper.
Avery Winstead had a 30-yard dash in the fourth quarter to conclude the CCS scoring.
“We kind of stymied on offense and had a few turnovers,” CCS head coach Andy Jackson said. “We just kind of fell behind. It was a pretty good football game in the first quarter, I thought.
Winstead led CCS on the ground with 133 yards on 15 carries. Williams finished with five carries for 84 yards, while Chandler Conway logged eight rushes for 91 yards.
CCS returns home next Friday to face defending North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A champion Kinston Bethel Christian. It will be the first of two meetings between the teams this season
