Chargers stiff-arm Halifax Academy 64-55
ROANOKE RAPIDS — After an 0-7 start to the season, the Wilson Christian varsity boys basketball team is on the precipice of the .500 mark.
Senior Brice Murray led the way with 21 points to pace four Chargers in double figures, and WCA rode a solid defensive effort on the road to get past Halifax Academy with a 64-55 win.
WCA, which led 34-19 at the half, moved to 8-9 overall ahead of Friday’s homecoming game with Goldsboro Faith Christian. Sophomore Seth Thompson had 13 points, with freshman Destin Melvin and senior Zach Hunter each finishing with 11. Junior Harrison Parker was held out for rest purposes.
“After a strong run from Halifax, our team worked well to move the ball forcing them to foul in the end,” Wilson Christian head coach Kevin Zander said. “Our defense held strong to hold off a team that kept fighting.”
Halifax, coached by former Northern Nash High head coach Rick Ruffin, dropped to 3-14. Sophomore Ayden Woodall led the Vikings with 14.
