Hartsfield 3-pointer rescues WCA
Senior Ashley Hartsfield’s accurate 3-point shot some four feet behind the arc with 35 seconds remaining bombed the host Wilson Christian Academy varsity girls basketball team to a 44-42 win against Halifax Academy on Thursday evening.
The Lady Chargers of the North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A ranks trailed 42-41 when Hartsfield delivered — on her way to a season-high 21 points.
After Hartsfield’s trey, the Lady Chargers responded with effective defense on Halifax’s next possession.
However, Madison Carnes fouled, sending Halifax’s 6-foot-2 Emerson Poole to the foul line.
But Poole failed to connect on the front end of the 1-and-1 opportunity. Carnes rebounded and dribbled the basketball until the clock expired.
Carnes wound up with eight rebounds, while Olivia Vick managed four rebounds and three assists. Hartsfield drained 5-of-13 attempts from 3-point range.
Halifax’s Poole stuffed in 20 points.
WCA notched its third consecutive win after a season-opening loss and next sees action against New Life Storm.
