Knights deck Wayne Christian 12-2

Sophomore Justin Holland and senior Luke Flaherty each collected three hits, and the Greenfield School varsity baseball team romped to its 10th victory of the season with a 12-2 victory over 1-A/2-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference rival Wayne Christian at Fleming Stadium.

The Knights (10-6, 4-1 CPIC) produced 12 total hits, with seven players collecting at least one. Flaherty tripled and drove in two runs, while Holland went 3 for 4 with two RBIs.

William Smith, a sophomore, was 1 for 3 and had three RBIs with a pair of runs scored.

Freshman Dane Reynolds earned the win on the mound for Greenfield, working 5 2/3 innings and allowing five hits. He struck out six and walked four. Greenfield provided bulk scoring in three innings, pushing across six runs in the second. The Knights followed with three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth.

Wayne Christian dropped to 6-7 in all games, 4-3 in CPIC play.

Greenfield visits Greenville Pope John Paul II on Wednesday.
