Greenfield doubles up Ridgecroft 34-17

After struggling to get the ball in the basket in the opening half, the Greenfield School varsity girls basketball team turned to dribble penetration and a decisive rebounding edge to earn a 34-17 nonconference win over Ridgecroft on Monday night.

Greenfield (11-5), a 1-A member of the 1-A/2-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference, held just a 12-7 lead at halftime. But behind the drives of Jeallen Holland, the Lady Knights marched to the free-throw line in the second half.

“We couldn’t get the ball in the basket the first half,” Greenfield head coach Bruce Wall said. “But Jeallen got to the free-throw line, and we beat them on the glass in the second half.”

Serenity McNair, also pivotal to Greenfield’s second-half surge, led the way with 10 points. Kaelyn Wall had nine and Holland had seven.

Greenfield returns to CPIC play Tuesday on the road at Greenville Pope John Paul II.
