Lane notches five goals in CCS win
GREENVILLE — A five-goal onslaught from junior Morgan Lane triggered the Community Christian School girls soccer team to a 7-0 1-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference conquest of Pope John Paul II on Monday.
Lane knocked in all five goals in the first 34 minutes and, upon netting the fifth goal, was taken out of the match.
Lydia Renfrow assisted Lane’s first two goals. Anna Jackson collected the assist on the third. Lane then scored unassisted in the 26th minute and, eight minutes later, finished an assist from Laura Bradley. Lane’s performance came after competing in The Wilson Times Track Classic earlier in the day.
“Maybe she should run track before every game now,” quipped Lady Cyclones head coach Monica Mills.
Olivia Bullard drilled in the final two goals in the 53rd and 59th minutes. Hadley Borg had the assist on Bullard’s first goal.
Mills also singled out the play of Laura Baldree, Kailey Murray, Whitney Bissette and Jackson. In goal, Makayla Webb and Emily Boyette teamed for the shutout. Pope John Paul managed four shots.
The Lady Cyclones, with a 7-3-1 record, return to Greenville to oppose The Oakwood School onThursday.
