Walker's deflection goal sends CCS into CCC championship
GOLDSBORO — Senior Garrison Walker’s goal off a deflection in overtime lifted Community Christian to a 3-2 victory over Cape Fear Christian in the semifinals of the 1-A Carolina Christian Conference boys soccer tournament at Wayne Christian.
The Cyclones (10-11) will play the winner of Raleigh Neuse Christian-Lee Christian in Monday’s other semifinals match in Tuesday’s championship game.
Community Christian scored first on Josh Webb’s penalty kick in the eighth minute. Webb later assisted on Salvador Guzman’s 54th-minute goal.
CCS advanced to the semifinals by virtue of a 3-1 defeat of Fayetteville Northwood Temple Christian in Friday’s quarterfinals action. Guzman scored all three goals, with Webb assisting on the first and Walker providing the helper on the second. The third was unassisted.
