Greenfield blanks another CPIC foe

The Greenfield School boys soccer team continued to overwhelm 1-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference opposition with a 9-0 conquest of Christ Covenant School of Winterville on Monday.

The Knights of head coach Randol Mendoza boosted their conference record to 4-0 and stand 10-1-1 overall.

Senior James Wells delivered a hat trick (three goals) and doled out three assists to lead Greenfield.

The match was terminated in the 51st minute via the mercy rule.

Eli Ferrell opened the scoring in the third minute on an assist from James Wells.

Next, James Wells assisted a goal by sophomore Jackson Stone and, in the 18th minute, Stone returned the favor. Cullen Wells knocked in the fourth goal on an assist from James Wells.

Still in the first half. James Wells converted another assist from Stone; and Argenis Rodriguez scored in the 31st and 32nd minutes. Responsible for the assists were Thorp Smith and Gabe Torres.

To open the second half, James Wells completed his hat trick and senior Logan Johnson forced enforcement of the mercy rule with the ninth goal. Stone came through with his third assist.

Senior Greenfield goalkeeper Cedric Kirby notched six saves in the opening half.
