Lady Cyclones drop opener to Oakwood
GREENVILLE - Community Christian School kicked off its girls soccer season Monday at The Oakwood School despite having had just three practices after the recent spate of cold weather.
The Lady Cyclones weathered an inauspicious start before allowing three second-half goals in a 5-1 loss to the Eagles. CCS gave up an own goal, then a penalty kick after a handball in the box.
With about five minutes left in the first half, junior Hailey Dail converted a pass from freshman Olivia Bullard into the Lady Cyclones' first goal of 2015.
CCS head coach Rhine Sharp said that freshman Anna Jackson scored just before the half, but the goal was negated after one referee whistled her for pushing.
"It wasn't a great day for us today," Sharp said.
He praised the play of junior sweeper Jordon London and senior left back Alex Jackson.
CCS is scheduled to play its home opener Friday night at 8 against North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A champion Hickory Christian.
