High-octane WCA offense stops Grace Christian
SANFORD — Taking on all the mechanics of a well-oiled machine, the Wilson Christian varsity volleyball team had three players record double-digit kills Monday night in winning their fifth straight match with a 25-18, 25-15, 24-26, 25-13 victory over Sanford Grace Christian.
Wilson Christian (6-1) of the North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A ranks picked up 47 assists from freshman setter Izzy Barnes, who had nothing short of a plethora of options to choose from.
Sophomore middle blocker Sophia Nesbit led the way with 19 kills, four blocks and four digs as sophomore Jocelyn Bailey wound up with a double-double of 12 kills and 20 digs.
Senior Paige Barnes added 11 kills for the rampaging offense of the Lady Chargers.
“We just kept popping the ball up,” Wilson Christian head coach Ryan Vanderboegh said. “It was really, really good volleyball! That was by far the best team we’ve played and the best game we’ve played.”
Junior libero Peyton Norville paced the defensive effort with 20 digs and initiated the offense to Barnes with 61 total passes.
Grace Christian, playing out of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A Mid-Carolina Conference, dropped to 1-2.
WCA returns to the throes of District 3 play Tuesday against Faith Christian of Goldsboro.
