From staff reports
Junior Hailey Dail's hat trick propelled the Community Christian School girls soccer team to its ninth consecutive win Monday afternoon with a 5-2 non-conference conquest of Kerr-Vance Academy.
CCS, ranked No. 4 among 1-A programs by North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association, moved to 9-1 overall. It's the ninth straight win for the Carolina Christian Conference Lady Cyclones since dropping their opener to Oakwood.
Freshman Morgan Lane opened the scoring in the second minute before Dail found the back of the net in the 26th. In the 37th minute, Lane found Dail for the finish, and the Lady Cyclones led 3-0 at the half.
Dail completed her hat trick unassisted in the 42nd as Kerr-Vance halved the margin with tallied in the 60th and 66th minutes. But in the 77th minute, eighth grader Sky Alexander knocked in a Dail assist to cap the scoring.
"They had a very good goalkeeper," CCS head coach Rhine Sharp said of Kerr-Vance. "To be quite honest with you, we could have scored seven to nine goals today. We had some opportunities to put the ball in the back of the net and didn't get the job done. I thought my defense played very solid again today."
With an leg injury to freshman Whitney Bissette in warmups, Sharpe's midfield took on a different form. Dail, along with Lane, Alexander and freshman Olivia Bullard, combined to form a midfield that drew praise from Sharpe for their enthusiasm.
