Wakefield ousts Northwood Temple at South Granville Holiday Invitational

The Wakefield Wolverines picked up a big win on Thursday night, taking down Northwood Temple to move on to the second round of the South Granville Holiday Invitational.

Wakefield got five scorers in double digits and used that balanced scoring to give the Eagles' defense trouble and establish a big early lead.

The Wolverines had that offense going all game, as only in the second quarter did Wakefield not top the 20-point mark.

In total, Wakefield knocked down seven three-pointers to help get and build its lead.

Northwood Temple struggled mightily in the first half on offense as the Eagles were able to manage just 12 and 7 points in the first two quarters of the game.

The Eagles found their offense in the second half, but not until the Wolverines already had the game well in hand.

Northwood Temple was unable to get closer than 12 points back in the second half.

Vernon Fraley led the way in points for the Wolverines with 18 with Harper Strickland right behind him at 15.

Reggie Raynor had 25 to lead all scorers in the losing effort for Northwood Temple, while Jay Hickman was right behind him with 24.

The win improved Wakefield's record this season to 6-3 as the Wolverines move closer to conference play.

Northwood Temple's record dropped to 9-9 with the loss as the Eagles have played a busy schedule to start the year.

Both teams will be back in action tomorrow as the tournament rolls on.

Wakefield will meet up with Granville Central with a spot in the championship game on the line.

Northwood Temple will take on Green Hope in the consolation bracket
