Lady Chargers make quick work of Hilltop
FUQUAY-VARINA — With marked improvement in the passing game from a Friday night defeat, the Wilson Christian varsity volleyball team took to the road for the first time in 2020 and came away with a 25-9, 25-18, 25-18 conquest of Hilltop Christian.
Among the beneficiaries of the increased fluidity was sophomore Jocelyn Bailey, who racked up six kills on just 10 swings as the Lady Chargers improved to 2-1 in winning their conference opener.
Bailey also added nine digs and three assists.
“Our passing was so much better,” WCA head coach Ryan Vanderboegh said. “It was a different team tonight than I saw play before.”
Freshman setter Izzy Barnes had 15 assists and three digs and could often be heard thanking her teammates for initial passes that put WCA in prime position to capitalize at the net, Vanderboegh said.
Sophomore Sophia Nesbit had six assists, with junior libero Peyton Norville notching nine digs. Senior Paige Barnes and junior Hailey Carnes had two kills each.
WCA will be the host team for a rematch Monday.
