Greenfield baseball tops Freedom Christian in opener
The Greenfield School varsity baseball team launched its 2021 season Thursday afternoon with an 8-5 victory over Fayetteville Freedom Christian.
Four players had multiple hits for the Knights, the sole 1-A member of the 1-A/2-A Coastal Plains Independent Conference.
Senior Justin Holland was 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs, while senior Virginia Tech signee Nathan Woodard was 2 for 3 alongside junior Jacob Wiggs. Freshman Harrison Batchelor went 2 for 4 at the plate.
Sophomore right-hander Gavin Price tossed 2 2/3 innings to pick up the mound victory, allowing just one earned run. He struck out two and walked four.
Wiggs supplemented his offensive showing by entering in the seventh and nailing down the save. He struck out one batter.
Greenfield faces off with Fayetteville Academy on Saturday.
