Cyclones fall to Knights

The Community Christian school baseball team’s early-season struggles continued at home Thursday night, as the Cyclones fell 7-3 to Thales Academy of Rolesville.

Noah Pierce took the loss for the Cyclones (0-4), allowing four earned runs on seven hits while striking out nine and walking one in six inning. The Knights’ (2-1-1) Nathan Ellison grabbed the victory as he allowed just one run on four hits while striking out five and walking one in 3 2/3 innings.

Roy Morgan, Fisher Hammel and Kaede Shuey each had two-hit outtings for the Knights, with Morgan scoring two runs and driving in two, Hammel notching an RBI and Shuey scoring two runs. The Cyclones’ Matthew Jackson went 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Landon Beamon went 2 for 2, scoring two runs.

The Knights jumped out to a 4-0 lead through three innings. The Cyclones answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut their deficit in half, but that was as close as it got.

Community Christian will visit Ridgecroft Friday.
