Senior Lea Gossett hit a milestone in her Wilson Christian varsity girls soccer career Thursday night, putting away her 100th goal in a Lady Chargers uniform en route to a hat trick and an overwhelming 10-0 victory over Fayetteville Berean Baptist Academy.

The Lady Chargers won their fifth straight game, vaulting to 7-1-1 overall and a perfect 5-0 in North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A District 3 play. WCA hasn’t lost since its season opener at Wake Christian.

Gossett, who has signed with NCAA Division I Gardner-Webb University, added an assist and put away her 100th career tally with her third goal. The contest was halted at halftime due to the nine-goal mercy rule.

Eighth grader Bri Little added her own hat trick and assist for Wilson Christian, with eighth graders Alyssa Waddell and Karys Wheeler tacking on one goal each. Freshman Chloe Villaverde and eighth grader Melia Hughes had a goal and an assist.

In goal, sophomore Kate Hoskins didn’t face a shot in 40 minutes as WCA sent 19 efforts at the Berean (2-5) net.

“I was pleased all the way throughout,” Wilson Christian head coach Don Samson said. “We jumped out to an early 3-0 lead by the 10-minute mark and by then, we were able to establish our game.”

Gossett was moved back in the Wilson Christian alignment after getting the hat trick and controlled the midfield and defensive third for the Lady Chargers.

WCA remains home Monday to face another District 3 foe when Fuquay-Varina Hilltop Christian visits.
