Rugged schedule tough on Chargers

The Wilson Christian Academy boys soccer team continued to suffer the consequences of a rugged schedule, dropping a 4-0 decision to Wake Christian Academy, a 3-A member of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association on Thursday.

The shutout left the Chargers of the North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A ranks with a 2-4 record. WCA is next in action at Bethel Christian of Kinston at 4 p.m. Thursday in a match that does not count in the NCCSA East Region District 3 standings.

Wake posted a 16-15 edge in shots and owned a 3-0 halftime lead. Head coach Don Samson noted his Chargers put only five shots on frame but failed to convert three excellent chances for a goal.

“We have really struggled playing together and relying on each other,” Samson explained. “That started to change today. I was encouraged from the things I saw from them.”

Sophomore Wilson Christian goalkeeper Bryan Paul notched four saves, and Samson singled out the play of senior midfielder Andrew Hartsfield.
