CCS deals Neuse its first defeat

Senior Hailey Dail drilled in two more goals as the host Community Christian School girls soccer team turned back previously undefeated Neuse Christian of Raleigh, 2-0, in a 1-A Carolina Christian Conference showdown Thursday.

Dail’s 11th and 12th goals of the season enabled the Lady Cyclones to improve to 2-0 in the conference and to 6-1 overall. Neuse Christian, featuring three Brazilian products and several CASL players, lost for the first time in seven matches. Community Christian also became the first team to score upon Neuse.

Dail notched the only goal the Lady Cyclones would need in the 21st minute after fielding a cross from sophomore Morgan Lane.

In the 69th minute, Dail rocketed a direct kick from some 30 yards out over the Neuse Christian wall.

Community Christian posted a 14-6 margin in shots and sophomore goalkeeper Emily Boyette notched four saves. The Lady Cyclones’ shutout remained intact when one of Neuse’s Brazilian players sailed a penalty kick high over the Lady Cyclones goal in the final five minutes.

Sharp hailed the defensive play of senior Jordan London, senior Eulyssa Giddings, sophomore Erika Vanderbrink and freshman Kailey Murray, along with the midfield domination of sophomores Anna Jackson and Whitney Bissette.

CCS breaks from conference play with a home match against Pope John Paul of Greenville at 7 p.m. Friday.
