Tyler's 2 HR not enough for Lady Cyclones
Area roundup
From staff reports
Senior Kristen Tyler belted two home runs Thursday night for the Community Christian School varsity softball team, but a seven-run second inning from visiting Cape Fear Christian helped doom the Lady Cyclones to a 16-4, five-inning 1-A Carolina Christian Conference loss.
CCS (1-3, 1-1 CCC) got a three-run homer from Tyler in the third inning while trailing 10-0, and in the fifth, she added a second homer, this one a solo shot. Both of her long balls were the only two hits for the Lady Cyclones. Tyler also pitched the distance for CCS, striking out three and walking four.
Julie Hodges recorded the win for Cape Fear in the pitching circle, striking out five and walking five. The Lady Eagles had three homers, two from NCISAA all-state shortstop Callie Ferrell, who went 2 for 3 with two home runs and four RBIs. Cara Kenton was 2 for 3 with a homer and three runs driven in.
Head coach Ronnie Wells hopes to have his usual starting pitcher, junior Addison Lamm, back in the lineup Monday when CCS continues conference play at Lee Christian. Lamm hasn't pitched since a season-opening loss to Oakwood due to personal reasons.
