Weary Lady Chargers bow in 4

The fourth match in the last seven days took a physical toll on a Wilson Christian Academy varsity volleyball team that dropped a 25-20, 25-17, 19-25, 25-23 decision against Halifax Academy on Thursday.

The second straight loss plunged the Lady Chargers of the North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A ranks to 6-3. Halifax competes in the 1-A North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association division.

WCA coach Ryan Vanderboegh noted his team was tired and did not respond well when junior setter Lauryn Parker was injured in the second set. Parker returned in the third set and the Lady Chargers forced a fourth set with a 25-19 win.

Parker still managed 16 assists and three aces. Taylor Woodard responded with 10 kills and three digs.

Senior Sarah Carr, who missed the previous match because of sickness, returned and notched nine kills. Sophomore McKenna Griffin registered six kills and two aces.

The Lady Chargers return to NCCSA 2-A East Region District 3 competition on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against visiting Faith Christian of Goldsboro.
