CCS falls 2-0 to Neuse Christian in CCC semis
For the second time this season, Neuse Christian Academy goalkeeper Kelly Price thwarted the Community Christian School girls soccer team.
Price had 11 saves as the Lady Cyclones outshot the Lady Lions 17-8 to record her second shutout on the CCS pitch this season to put Neuse Christian into the championship game of the 1-A Carolina Christian Conference tournament.
“She is by far the best keeper we have played against,” CCS head coach Rhine Sharp said. “She’s about 6-foot tall and she gets to everything.”
Sharp credited the Lady Lions’ strategy of packing it in against the offensive-minded Lady Cyclones.
“They had six back in defense,” he said. “They just let us take shots on them. It’s a great strategy when you’ve got a keeper like that.”
Community Christian keeper Emily Boyette had six saves.
In CCS’ 3-0 loss to NCA on April 14, the Lady Cyclones peppered Price with 33 shots, but none of the Lady Cyclones’ efforts found the back of the net.
CCS, the No. 1 seed in the CCC tourney, now will await its fate in from the seeding committee for the 1-A North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association state tournament.
No. 2 seed Trinity Christian of Raleigh lost 4-3 to No. 3 Lee Christian in the other semifinal.
Lee and No. 4 Neuse will meet in Friday’s championship match at 7 p.m. at CCS.
